FW hates the post. If they could have Trump run it himself and privatize it, they would. Idk if they’ve ever posted a pro-post article

BK, I don’t think your supposed to have a musket at your case, even if it’s in Texas. :cowboy_hat_face:

BK, I am curious if you feel carrying mail the last 10 years were a positive for you as far as life in general. I am considering if my life and lifespan will be better if I retire at 62 or try to make it to 70. On one hand, I consider the 8 less years of retirement. But on the other hand I wonder if it would really be 8 years less because maybe continuing to work will perhaps extend my life 8 years due to keeping active, etc. If I could deliver mail to age 120, I would definitely think that was best. But I don’t know if I will last that long.

I feel like every day I wake up is positive. I enjoy the aspect of getting out of bed every morning and going to work and putting a few smiles on people’s faces. There are lots of sad and lonely people out there and I try to make some kind of impact in their lives. even the dogs and cats on my route. I’ve spoken to those who retired when they could and some say it was the best move in their life but the other half who say they made a mistake. I guess if you got plenty money in the bank and you want to do some travelling then get out. The postal service isn’t people friendly anymore . the days of getting words of encouragement or a pat on the back are long gone. When the postal service started pushing on me to retire, I started to push back. I went to my doctor the other day and he said he couldn’t find anything wrong with me. He said to keep up whatever I’m doing which is walking lots in this hot Texas sun. A whopper a day keeps the doctor away

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Life has been rough in my family so I don’t have the pot of gold many have. But I have a passle of kids and I would never be left wanting. For me it is how my working affects family life and my health. Age differences in spouses seems to be a big issue in the retirement decision. If I retire at 62 my money would be similar to when working when all things are considered. I hate that the $10K per year the government is going to get in FICA will not gain me anything in return no matter when I retire at this point. Even at age 70 it would only be $60 or so a month more than if I never paid in another dime.

If only I knew more about retirement. all of my friends think I’m crazy for working still after 50 years. the ones that are retired tell me they understand. I’m not going to be one of those that works, retires, then gets a part time job to make ends meet. You’ll never have to worry about seeing me pushing a mop at a McDonalds. Come by my Burger King and you can watch me push a mop there. and I’ll treat you to a Whopper. I wish I could get something for my sick leave. as of now I have almost 5000 hours but I’ve been told I won’t get paid for it. maybe a little added to my civil service retirement

BK, good to have a fair amount of SL saved up, you never know when you might need a bunch all of a sudden. Anything can happen health wise. Sounds like you are doing something right though! :+1:

Seeing Texas is an open carry state, does anyone ask you about the crown and the musket?

You will get about $300/mo. more by the SL being added to your 80% CSRS annuity. And remember, you have that chunk of 7% of your base pay you have been paying in for the last 8+ years after you maxed out your years for CSRS annuity. And I believe that is not taxed when you get it back. I would rather work to 80 than retire at 62 and die at 70. But I do hate to give so much money to SS and not see anything for it.

Have you gone to eRetire and had an annuity estimate generated? You can also get a retirement counseling session from HR. The main thing is you want to avoid allowing some salesperson “help” you with retirement. They are going to “help” themselves to your money. Some people here foolishly go to a company and end up losing their TSP. Basically, they tell them if you put $250K in this annuity we will promise you $1,000/mo for life. What they don’t tell them is that they are kissing that $250K goodbye. You can get $1,000/mo by buying a Treasury bond and you would get to keep your $250K and control of it. You can access it by selling your treasuries and you can pass it on when you die. Don’t ever let someone advise you if they are selling something. A fee-based advisor who doesn’t benefit by what you decide is okay. But you can find most things out for yourself online.

I say it’s better to retire a little bit late than a little bit early. Once you retire, that’s it. you’re locked in. I know a guy that used to work here who got out early just because he hated working here so much. and now he’s cutting grass for people for 50 dollars a yard. I’m not into grass cutting. unless it’s my own. the last time I looked into that ERetire estimate, it showed something like 5000 a month. I wonder if that includes credit for my unused sick leave? So according to you I will get 300 a month extra. OK. That’s better than nothing. I would prefer they write me a check for the whole amount though but I don’t see that happening. I think if they would start paying people for their unused sick leave, it might encourage them to show up for work . we got people who have been here 30 plus years who have next to nothing. and they laugh at me because I have so much. whatever happens to the postal service will decide a lot for me in deciding which way to go. I have heard this new PMG has lots of ideas on what to do with the postal service so maybe he will be making some decisions concerning that shortly after he takes office . And then what Trump can do or can’t do is another . I don’t see privatization happening though. Not in our lifetime. Eventually maybe . I try to go only as far as today and half of tomorrow. I got my uniforms in my washer so I contemplate going in tomorrow assuming I wake up.

BK is obsessed with having a better burger than Ronald. I think maybe it was his idea for Mrs. King to keep Ronald distracted.
