Volvo Autonomous Solutions will go fully driverless on U.S. highways in Q1 2027, targeting more than 300 trucks by year-end and nearly $3 billion in revenue.

Cool, but what for there sleeper?

Safety drivers participated in their own Demise

Being a veteran driver, i find this all a bit amusing! I laugh out load every time i hear the mention of it. On paper, it all sounds good, and then reality starts to creep in. You start to understand that it is unsustainable. Long term, it could never work.
You see, the problem is never on the driver. It’s the broken system itself. In a 70 hour work week, (62 hours) the driver is tasked with solving unforseen issues (problem solving). Driving is the simple part of otr. No computer will ever be equipped to replace what humans do on an hourly basis.

What a waste of money and resources. Just give drivers their respect due and up their salaries. CEO’s are disengaged and are about to experience a costly lesson. Once they figure it out, i fear it will be far too late.

Just another example of Corporate greed !!! 35 yr veteran driver here the Trucking industry employs a lot of people that lives in out laying areas where there isn’t opportunity for other employment these men and women leave there house and are gone away from home to suppport there families in areas where they were born and call home to return and spend a few days with there love ones to only continue this weekly ritual over and over which helps the company they work for there family the area they live in but now this example of corporate greed will take all that away just like all the other corporate program’s that’s eliminated jobs companies make more money but it’s never enough for them with every human that loses there job to a computer or robot that means 1 less person paying taxes and social security our government already has problems paying for programs so now there will be less people paying in to everything let alone there is lots of situations that go into driving a truck that isn’t necessarily moving the vehicle and using a gps doesn’t always route you in the best places and sensors doesn’t always do there job right I hate to think how many people will lose there lives while they discover things that’s went wrong in driverless trucks but at the end of the day
Companies could care less about employees / people or morals it’s all about profit and those greedy board of directors
Corporate greed has been the downfall of lots in this country and will continue till the rich people choke on there money !!!

That kind of technology is not affordable nor sustainable in the industry. I’m just waiting for the first lawsuit when a truck overcorrects itself or pushes someone off the road. And GPS is not always the best route. There’s too much of a human element when it comes to moving freight. There are already lawsuits with self driving cars
