The EV Truck Reality Check and Why Edison Motors' Hybrid Might Be What Actually Works

Edison Motors’ diesel-electric hybrid trucks prove EVs can work in trucking when you build around operational realities rather than regulatory fantasies. That’s the kind of practical engineering that deserves attention.

I think a few things should be clarified, the regulatory approval they have gotten from environment Canada (the canada version of USA EPA) gives them the ability to build mechanical trucks. They are still fighting the approval for hybrid approval which requires laws to be re-written.

They did initially use a CAT engine but because of sourcing issues and CAT internal processes for generator sourcing (I think something about CAT wanting to focus on other engine types/sizing)

Instead in their searching they are hoping long term to get approval for a Scania engine the ideal Scania engine is one of the newer ones that doesn’t have the DEF system. But one of their latest prototypes does have the Scania but with a DEF system. And they do point out that Scania has a large parts network so sourcing things aren’t an issue for repair.

But overall the work they are doing is nothing short of amazing.

Scania in Bruce Smith’s demonstration cab over does not have DPF or EGR, cooler.
It does however use more DEF than Cummins ISX.
Diesel exhaust fluid injection on a highly efficient , high boost engine is better than DEF and DPF and EGR , EGR cooler on inefficient ISUX that fails all 4 systems regularly.
By not using a 7th fuel injector to burn ash and soot in DPF burn barrel the Scania injecting fluid as after treatment is clean and simple, better option for Chase & Co.

Plus Scania in Red Deer Ab. Is eager to supply in stock generators certified in Europe. ■■■■■■■■ government must adopt .Au plan of accepting euro and EPA spec engines . We are “consciously decoupling” from USSA as they couple with USSR ownership.
