Freight broker Landstar System will record several accident-related charges in the fourth quarter.
Good glad to see these brokers paying up. FAFO. They hire these cheap outfits to haul freight and don’t want any accountability when the people hauling the load screw up. I love it.
Good to see you have no idea what you’re talking about. What entity is accountable to licensing and monitoring the ‘legality’ and ‘fitness’ of motor carriers to haul freight? You want to hold brokers accountable because they follow the laws and the carriers don’t? Makes a bunch of sense…
I have to agree. I believe Lanstar was held for more responsibility than should be allowed. I am no fan of most greedy brokers, but to hold them liable for 100% + of the cost for this accident is wrong. If a carrier is vetted, has authority in good standing and insurance, the broker should not be held for 100% of the cost. It should however be more stringent on what carriers it decides meet their criteria to haul the load. Sounds like the approved carriers insurance folded and now they went after the broker for all of it. I am no fan of most greedy brokers but fair is fair on both sides, not just the one with the most money. If a freight broker does its due diligence on vetting these carriers it would stop these verdicts. Thats my take.
