Reports of immigration services targeting truck drivers caused a sharp spike in spot rates this past week, but as of late week tender rejections remained steady. Weak demand may be hiding growing fragility in the market.
This problem in trucking is multi-faceted. How do you eat an elephant? 1 bite at a time.
- Remove the illegal drivers. Put them in jail, then if foreigners send them back.
- Enforce the rules in place. Use english, make the brokers give the infor for the load if you ask for it.
- Just like millitary loads, have the shipper post the original dollar amount to haul the load and then who the load went to. That way you can track and notify the government of the dozen or so brokers that it went to before the driver got it.
- Make the states realize that trucking is interstate and not tax, regulate, change emission laws that cover interstate commerce.
- The placement of automatic transmissions has allowed anyone, and I mean anyone to be able to drive a truck irrespective of whether they should or not.
- Disband the ATA for the lies to congress and the American people about a shortage of drivers. This has caused so many problems for our industry. Treat your drivers correctly and your turn over rate will be retirement, or other small factors.
I have had a CDL since 1999, and this is crazy to expect people to survive.
After being a loyal member of the FW Forum for the last 6-7 months, I realized this space was missing something. It didn’t feel like a family, and it certainly didn’t feel like a space “where the freight community connects”. I no longer want to follow the lead of a failing FW, who in their infinite wisdom, fired the only talented member of their digital content team, Timothy Dooner. So, starting today, I decided to create this new topic. I’m calling it the REAL State of Freight because this is space where industry leaders will converge to share opinions and findings in the ever-complex logistics industry and talk ISHT about Craig Fuller and his bald shiny head. I know I cannot be the only one and I’m calling for us to unite. Let me be your Bat Signal. Let me be your Optimus Prime. I am Vicky, and I send this message to any surviving freight industry leaders taking refuge among the stars: We are here. We are waiting. WWG1WGA.
