DEF sensors no longer required on trucks, other diesel equipment: EPA

EPA changes its diesel exhaust fluid sensor policy.

Ours have always had the ten hours, in theory, except it often wouldn’t show anywhere, so your first sign was a loss of power. Also it’s the EGT sensor that is the main culprit - if it gives bad readings (and it will after 200,000 miles if not before) then it doesn’t matter what your dosing or NOx sensor is up to because they’re operating on false information. I had to badger the mechanics into just changing it every 18 months because it’s a dirty job and they don’t want to do anything unless the laptop tells them what to do. The entire system is designed around compliance, not efficiency or dependability. In fact you would reduce fuel consumption on board (as well as all the energy put into making and packaging and pumping and shipping tons of urea around the country) by simply removing it entirely. Might make sense to install it for urban environments but for linehaul and long haul it’s a waste of time.

It’s about time, constant problems in cold weather. Safety and reliability and longevity always need to be top priorities.

They need to do away with DEF DPF and EGR’S altogether. Its ALL BS non efficient designed to fail and only to comply with EPA emmissions standards. Its been nothing but junk and garbage coming from these manufacturers since they started with this ■■■■. 41 yrs in cant wait to gtfo of it with all this political talk bs and NO positive action to fix the problems. Its why I own operate and drive older equipment. And will up until I retire for good and dont have drivers anymore. Older well maintained equipment is on the road hauling loads more reliably than this new garbage without the hassles and when it is time for maintenance and repairs older equipment is easier to work on cheaper to maintain and quick turn around out of the shop back to working. You can have all that new bs junk. Def is LITERALLY ■■■■ WATER NO THANKS

Oh look CENSORSHIP OF MY COMMENTS. PHUCK FREIGHTWAVES

Does anybody know that def fluid KILLS HONEY BEES. It says in researching of def fluid, don’t use around bees. So no bees no food, but spend more in trucking costs and kill what helps keep the human alive. Love the EPA.
