A coalition of U.S. states persuaded a federal judge to temporarily block the Department of Homeland Security from obtaining commercial driver records.
That same pii would have been obtained - or should have - at the time of registering and licensing. They act as though they are going to sell it on the black market.
They are using it to rid of the shady side of the industry.
Congress established CDLIS in 1986 as a state-to-state information-sharing system that helps licensing agencies determine whether applicants already hold a CDL elsewhere and whether they meet federal qualification standards. AAMVA has operated the system under contract with the Department of Transportation since 1988.
State agencies use CDLIS to verify driver identity, medical qualifications, immigration status and driving history before issuing or renewing a CDL. The database contains personally identifiable information, including Social Security numbers and licensing records.
FED $$ should have verification oversight to STATE disbursement of critical pre-requisite criteria when issuing or renewing a CDL for use on public roads. If STATES issued/renewed CDL’s appropriately, then the dbase should be clean, if not it should be scrubbed.
