Aurora plans to exit 2026 with 200 driverless trucks and wants 30,000 by 2030. Werner, one of its driverless customers, said the economics only work once scale brings costs down.
I believe drivers who currently work for these companies need to make an exit plan within the next 90 days. The companies that purchase these trucks show profit over lives. Have they forgotten hard working drivers who have left families behind, missed important birthdays being over the road just to be pushed aside by a driverless truck. Many drivers will be affected and i think if drivers were smart they should exit now and investment in a company that believes in workers first. Why would you stick around when your future is at stake?
I don’t think there is enough steady freight to reach the scale they want. The rest of the supply chain already holds back the human driver.
And, as always, who takes the blame when something goes wrong?
Aurora is building a model to put drivers out of work just to make a buck. And it’s really unbelievable that this is even taking place and of course I hope they fail.
