Three former Quickway drivers, seeking class action, said Kroger blocked 3 carriers from hiring them.
When I worked for Werner enterprises, drivers were forbidden to talk or even think about the teamsters. Union was not in our vocabulary. If the company even thought for one minute that you might be interested in the teamsters, you would be fired and not allowed to be rehired by any trucking company. All they had to do was put a mark by your name on DAC, and everyone was aware not to hire you. I can easily understand why the teamsters tried to unionize the big trucking companies. At the same time, the big trucking companies had a legal strategy for keeping their driver’s under their wing. Werner was proud to be the company that started the electronic log system, and their version was much better than today’s version! C.L. Werner was a quiet man,but at the same time he ran the business with his sons. His sons wanted dragsters and other lavish things,CL wanted trucks and drivers to operate them. Werner wasn’t evil, didn’t really have evil intentions, but they did control a large trucking company and keep the teamsters out.
So they’re trying to keep out the union. That’s just smart business today. The modern union exists for one purpose, providing fundung for itself and the mobsters running it. Everything else, including the workers, will be tossed under the bus to accomplish their one purpose.
Anyone can understand why mobsters would want to extort more people…
