Tariffs that President Trump announced Wednesday will vary, but he said that as a starting point, new levies on imports from many nations will equal half what those nations charge on exports from the U.S.

Savannah ports! OMG; gonna get crushed by these tariffs. Almost all the inbound freight to Savannah was “made in China” or all the countries China used to circumvent previous tariffs; such as Vietnam, Thailand, etc. Trump hit all of this, severely ; with about 50% avg tariffs. Very similar scenario for ports of LBC. The legacy carriers; highly exposed to this intermodal; are going to get hurt worse too. Savannah had best create the incentives to get some re-shored “Made In USA” factories located there; only way to still thrive. Mexico got off hook; for now; with “for now” being key. China affiliated producers should be very weary about moving supply chain to Mexico-for-US; as Trump could hit this, next; after China spends a $trillion or two locating in Mexico . But same for US companies manufacturing in Mexico; thier investment could be upended; overnight; and this uncertainty is exactly what Trump wants. IMO , Trump will hit Mexico, after storm from current tariffs winds down. So as not to do too much “upending” at once. If any of these hit by tariffs (China, Taiwan, Vietnam, etc) thinks producing in MX for US market is safe or smart idea? You are a fool. Tariffs are my favorite part of Trump’s presidency. Maybe the only thing I like.
