Federal regulators have officially opened a 30-day comment period on ATA’s request for a five-year exemption to continue onboarding 18-to-20-year-old interstate truck drivers.

A ticking time ■■■■, teens can barely drive a car much less a 80,000 lb vehicle. This will definitely put lives in danger and I’m speaking from experience I’ve been out here OTR for 30 years, trust and believe this is not ok.

So instead of building a decent work ethic, learn to be responsible and showing these kids from a young age that hard work is the correct path not being a thug/gangster you suggestet to shut one of the very few initiatives that is designed to to keep kids off the street and put the on the right path, just because you are ■■■ you never had it ?I wonder how many kids would risk their freedom doing something illegal when they could drive around the country making 1500$/week easily. . If Mike Tyson was the heavyweight champion of the world at 21, I don’t see why some kid shouldn’t be allowed to start practicing as soon as he/she turns 18.

While this doesn’t affect me in the slightest. It is messed up that these young adults were allowed to get their CDLs and pay 6k+ to attend school and pay for the license only for them to be at risk of losing their license after. Yeah they are young but not all young drivers are knuckleheads and I’ve seen grown old men do more ■■■■ ■■■■ at times than younger guys. Let them keep their cdl and let them at least be local drivers. The can at least work locally driving trash trucks or final mile drivers for Werner? Etc. Maybe just restrict them to not cross state lines nor be able to do hazmat or doubles/triples until they are 21.

There are 18-20 , 21 years old kids flying Apache helicopters , calling airstrikes ,operate Patriot batteries and everything in between but driving a truck ? Can’t have that. The trucking profession sucks anyways. Trading years of our lifes for what a entry level software engineer starts at. If the choice was between Trucking or College then such programs wouldn’t be necessary but better than getting a criminal record at 18 while praising the rappers . Anyways, why do you all care so much about something so insignificant, it’s not like these money would’ve had come in your pockets nor came out . Im starting to suspect there might be some jealous folks in our ranks. Like
